Kinetic Card.

K
is for
KINETIC CARDS.

Version I
This tutorial is for a very simple moving card and very easy to make.

1.
Start by making two base cards from cardstock. One 5.5" square and the other slightly smaller at  5.25"

 2.
On the larger base, cut your chosen aperture from the front of the card which must be a shape that is the same on both sides. Here I have used a heart shape. On the second card  simply fold into a concertina shape by folding the front in half and the back in half the opposite way so that you end up with 4 folds. Crease the folds well.

 3.
Open out the concertina and on the last fold cut away to leave only  a half  inch strip. Cut this to leave two small tabs at top and bottom as shown below.

 4.
Decorate the aperture shape that you removed from the card previously. Here I have used a butterfly die.
 5.
Fold the concertina back up with the flaps on the top fold and adhere the end fold to the base of the card lining up the edges.
 6.
Fold the front of the card over and on the portion of the concertina showing through the aperture apply ds tape .
 7.
Lay the decorated shape back into the aperture making sure it is lined up. Open up card and  apply ds tape to the two tabs.
 8. Fold card back shut to attach the tabs to the inside front.  Your card is now complete.
Here you can see the card fully opened. Card can be decorated as required.

Version II
This tutorial is for a very simple Slider card and very easy to make.

1. Start by selecting an image to use. Here I have used a  flower stamp by W Plus 9 which I have coloured using my promarkers.
2. Next you will need to cut your aperture to make  the slider mechanism. Here I have used my SU Punch 'Large word window' to cut out with. If you do not have a suitable punch/die then you can simply draw two parallel lines joining  either end and then cut out with scissors or a craft knife.
n.b. It is easier to do this after the image has been coloured in.

 3. Choose your card base and adhere the image with temporary tape.
 4. Using d.s. tape on the back of the strip that you removed from the image place back into the aperture making sure that you realign back into the same place. (Here you can see where I have started to remove the d.s tape and fit back in the slot. )
 5. Once you have stuck the cut piece back into the image  carefully remove the flower image from the front of the card.
This will leave the part of the image that is now the back of the slider slot. (This is done so that when using the slider mechanism you do not see the plain white or the colour of the base card showing through and detracting from the image).

6. Now turn your image over and place a small coin (which needs to be bigger than the width of the aperture but small enough to adhere behind your slider element and also not show when attached to the front of the card.) Using double sided sticky pads or tape first adhere around the slider aperture making sure that the coin is free to move up and down the slot without sticking. Then add more around the edge of the image. Fore ease make this double thickness by adding another layer on top.

7.  Now carefully turn image over and keeping the coin in the slot adhere some thin strips to the front of the card through the slot and adhere your slider element (which in this case is the die cut Butterfly). Now peel off the backing paper from the ds tape and adhere your image back in place on the front of the card carefully lining up over the slot (which you had  previously adhered to the card front).

n.b. As you can now see when sliding the butterfly up and down the complete image of the flower is shown and the butterfly looks as it if is moving from one flower head to another .

8. Complete the rest of your card as required.

Joy Fold

J
is for
JOY FOLD CARDS.

Version I

In this first version I am going to show you how to get all of the base pieces needed to make this card from one sheet of card stock/printer paper 29.7cm21 cm

1.
Using a trimmer cut one piece 8.5" x 4.25" and score at 5.5"
Cut a further piece 8" x 3" and score at 4".

 2.
One of the remaining pieces left should now be a strip  which is 1" x 8.5".
Score this strip at 1.5" and 7"
Put the 2 remaining pieces of cardstock to one side. We will come back to them later in the tutorial.

3.
Use design papers from your stash to embellish the  inside of the largest folded card as below.
 4.
Attach the smaller folded card to this card as shown and again embellish with design paper.
 5.
Close card and decorate the front panel with a contrasting paper.
6.
Fold flap over the front panel and decorate to match as below.

 7.
Now decorate the narrow strip and retain the small piece of card from  No 2 above.(You are going to use this small strip to stamp a sentiment on.)
 8.
From the remaining piece of cardstock (at No 2 above) cut a strip 1" wide. Embellish with the design paper the same as the long strip.  (As you can see the long strip i.e the belly band is not long enough on it's own to go round the card which is why the extra strip is needed)
 9.
Stamp your sentiment on the thin strip and trim to fit (onto the 1" strip) as shown below. Use this to bridge the gap on the belly band.
Now trim the remaining last piece of cardstock as below. This will be used for decorating the inside of the card. (The 1 remaining thin strip is the only piece of cardstock not needed. )

 10.
Decorate with a sentiment and any embellishment that you require.
11.
Attach to card as below.

12.
Finished card.

N.B.
I was asked by a fellow blogger to make the pictures bigger with the  written sizes on.  I didn't  want to make all the pictures bigger as I felt the tutorial would just go on and on and be even longer than it already is but I have increased the sizing of all measurements in the written instructions and made the  first picture bigger instead.
