#165 Spin The Butterfly Wheel with T For Triple Point Card.

The Butterflies are back with a brand new Alphabet

and card shapes to try out. 

Whilst I do have lots of new card shapes for you to try I don't have one to use for each letter of the Alphabet so this time round we are going Random and some letters will be used more than once and in any order!

So first letter out of the Tea cup is

Lets Spin the Butterfly Wheel.

Each challenge will be a letter of the Alphabet with a new  choice of 4 Colours , 1 Theme and a specified  Card shape  all beginning with the chosen letter.

As before I will be showing a tutorial for each of the card shapes.

 A link to the tutorial page is shown above under the banner heading. Just click on the Card Shapes tab and you will be taken to a drop down list of all the past and present card  tutorials.

 You must of course use a butterfly on your entry but there are now two categories for you to choose from.

1.    Make a card using at least 2 of the colours on the wheel +butterfly.  

     2.    Make a card using the card shape +any 2 of the colours + the theme +butterfly.  

There will be a prize for each category.  

Please state in your post which part of the wheel you are using to play with.

There will be a special prize draw for using all of the wheel.

Book Binding Fold.

 BOOK BINDING FOLD 

There are 3 Versions

Version I

The instructions below are for the  Fold element only and not the whole card design.

For Version I

1. Cut cardstock 4.5" x 11".  Score  on long side (11") at 4.25" and 5.5"

 2. Fold on the the 5.5" score line  to create a card base that is  4 .5"" x 5.5" 

3. Now fold back on the 4.25" score line . 

4. This creates the spine to make the book binding edge. 

 

5. Use glue or d.s.tape to adhere the spine fold together and decorate the rest of the card as required.

Version II

Made with an acetate front cover.

1. Cut cardstock 7" x 5".  Score  on 7" length at 1.5"

2. Cut design paper 5.5" x 5" and adhere to back of page.

3. Turn cardstock over and adhere design paper  that has been cut 1.25" x 5" to the small panel on the right. 

4. Turn card back over and cut a piece of acetate that is 5.5" x 5" and place over the top of the design paper. Use d.s. tape and adhere the small panel down on top of the acetate to form the front of card. 

5. Open card and now add 2 strips of d.s. tape to the back of the the acetate at the fold edge and stick down onto the design paper. 

6. Card is now complete.

Here is my finished version. 

Version III

This is to make the  Book Binding Explosion Card.

1. Cut 2 pieces of coloured  cardstock 7" x 5". 

2. Take one piece and score at 2" on the 7" length and fold. 

3. Stick  d.s. tape to the wrong side of  short panel and adhere on top of the other cardstock with the  short scored panel to the left. This creates the book binding element of the card. 

4. Decorate both panels with design paper of your choice cut to fit. 

5.  To create the explosion element of the card use  design paper either plain or patterned . I have used plain here.  Cut a square that is 6.5" x 6.5".

6. Fold  paper in half.

7. Open out and  fold in half again in the opposite direction so that when you open back out you have formed a cross on the paper

8. Now fold paper into a triangle.

9. Open paper back out and it should like this. 

10. Now take hold of the left triangle fold and gently pull down as shown in these two photos below. 

11. Keeping in place take the right hand triangle and fold down to meet in the middle as shown shown in the sequence of  photos below.

12. Fold down completely flat.

13. Adhere d.s. tape all round the top edge as shown below. 

14. Now open up your card base and carefully place the folded square (making sure that closed edge marked with the arrow i.e. the centre point of your square) is placed to the fold in your card and evenly placed on the other three edges. Remove the tape covering and fold the card front down over your square being careful not to move it as you do so. 

15. Open card back up and adhere ds. tape to the back of the folded square as shown below. 

16.Remove the tape covering and close card down.  Your explosion mechanism is now adhered  in place. 

17 You can now decorate and  finish your card as required.

Collar Fun Fold

COLLAR FUN FOLD

There are 3 Versions

Version I

The instructions below are for the Collar Fun Fold element only and not the whole card design.

For Version I

1. Cut cardstock 4" x 11".  Score and fold on long side (11") to create a card base that is  4" x 5.5" 

2. Cut a piece of double sided design paper that is  4" x 5.5"

n.b. This shape requires the use of design paper that has a contrasting pattern on the reverse. If you do not have any double sided paper then see  the instructions at the bottom of this page to see how you can easily adapt single sided design paper instead. 

3. Choose which side of the paper  is to be the front of your card and turn paper to  the reverse side. On the 5.5" length mark the middle point which will be at 2.75" and draw a line top to bottom. N.b I am using plain white copier paper here so that you can easily see the markings but you will be doing yours on the design paper. 

4. Choose how deep you want your collar fold to be . On my card I  decided on 2" so measure 2" up on the pencil line and mark. Now using scissors cut on this line to the 2" mark. 

5. Now you just need to fold your collar so turn your design paper over to the front and crease as follows.  From the bottom left corner fold on the dotted line up to the end of your cut line. Repeat on the right hand side. 

6. Your collar fold should now look like this below. (As you can see my design paper was one sided so scroll down to the bottom of page to see how I easily decorated the reverse of the paper to make it double sided.) 

n.b  Also if you are using directional paper (like I have) make sure you have the correct orientation before cutting!

For Version II

1. Cut cardstock 4" x 11".  Score and fold on long side (11") to create a card base that is  4" x 5.5"

2. Cut a piece of double sided design paper that is  4" x 5.5"

Don't forget if using a directional paper that you have the design the right way up. 

3. Choose which side of the paper  is to be the front of your card and turn paper to  the reverse side. Again I am using plain white copier paper here so that you can easily see the markings but you will be doing yours on the design paper.  Make a 1" square on the top right hand corner. To do this measure  along the top  4" make a mark at 3". On the right hand side mark down the 5.5" at 1". Join lines to form the 1" square as shown below.

4. Draw a line from the edge of this box down to the bottom left hand corner. Cut along this line.

5. Turn design paper over to the front. Fold back each side starting at the 1" box edge to form the collar. How much you turn back is your decision. Mine measure approx 1" at the widest part.  Trim of the overlapping points at the dotted lines as shown below.

6. Your design paper should look something like this. 

For Version III

1. Cut cardstock 4" x 11".  Score and fold on long side (11") to create a card base that is  4" x 5.5" Make this a top folding card. 

2. Cut a piece of double sided design paper that is  4" x 5.5"

3. Choose which side of the paper  is to be the front of your card and turn paper to  the reverse side. On the 5.5" length mark the middle point which will be at 2.75" and draw a line top to bottom.

4. Choose how deep you want your collar fold to be . On my card I  decided on 3" so measure 3" up on the pencil line and mark. Now using scissors cut on this line to the 3" mark. Measure 2cm in from each side edge at the bottom and mark. Draw a dotted line from the top of the cut down to these marks. Fold on the dotted line so that the points of the collar are on the edges of the design paper as shown below. 

Now here are 3 ways to make your design paper two sided but there are many other ideas you can use too. 

Idea I.

I have picked out the four colours from the front design.

Using my promarkers I have created a stripe design and a check design simply by drawing in the lines with a ruler on the reverse side of the paper.

Idea 2.

I have picked out the green and blue colours from the front design.

On the reverse i have used a distress ink in the green and coloured the collar using my dauber. 

Then I have stenciled over this with blue ink to create the spotted effect.  You can use any stencil design to create your pattern with (the smaller the overall design the better). NB. What you can see in the picture below isn't a stencil as such but a plastic dish insert which I kept from a microwave meal. It works perfectly though to create spots!

Idea 3.

I have picked out the blue colour from the front design.

Then simply coloured the reverse in with my blue promarker and using a  small design pattern stamp  randomly stamped in black ink over the top to create the ditsy design. 

Other ideas are to draw a design free hand (we are only talking about a small area  to do), try the shaving foam technique on the reverse of your sheet of design paper. as the paper stays dry on the side not placed down on the foam. If your design paper is very fussy then you could  even place it through an embossing folder so that the design only shows up on the reverse and if you ink up the folder with a colour first then you have a pattern hey presto.
