CURTAIN FOLD  CARD.

Version I

1. This version will give you a Full Curtain Fold with uneven folded pleats. ie wide, thin,wide,thin,wide. 
 Start by using design paper cut to 11.5" x 4". If you want a pattern showing through on the folds then use a double sided design paper.  n.b for the tutorial I have used plain paper in order for the instructions to show up.  on the left short side measure up 1" from the bottom and make a  mark with a pencil. Do the same on the right hand edge but this time measure down from the top 1". and mark.

2. Now draw a pencil line from the two marks diagonally across the paper. It is a lot easier to see the line to be cut in your trimmer or if you are confident enough by using scissors or even a craft knife. Do not cut this line yet.

3. Now put your score lines in for the curtain fold. Starting at the left hand side score the following across the page. 1",2.5",3.25", 4.75", 5.75", 7.25", 8" 9.5",10.25"   n.b. I have drawn a pencil line down each of them so that they show up on this tutorial. 

4. Now do the diagonal cut. This will give you two pieces enough to make 2 cards. Fold th score lines as follows. Starting with the 1" on the left hand side fold mountain,valley, mountain, valley, mountain, valley, mountain, valley, mountain, making sure that the folds stay in a line across the top as you make the creases.  

5. Now turn your folded card over and hold securely  in place using double sided tape as shown below. 

6. You can now complete your card as required. Here I have used the following pieces of card to complete my design below. 
Cardstock 4.25" x 5.25" 
Cardstock 4.25" x 2" 
A thin strip of cardstock 4.25" long.
Curtain fold.

Mounted onto a tent fold card measuring. 5" x 5.75".

Version II

1. This version will give you a Half Curtain Fold with small even pleats.  
Start with a piece of design paper (double sided if required) 6" x 3".
On the 6"length score at the following  2",2.25",3",3.25",4",4.25",5" and 5.25".
I have marked the score lines below in pencil so they show up on the plain paper. 

2 At the 2.25" score line mark with a pencil. On the right hand side edge mark 1.5" down from the top.

3. Now draw a diagonal line between these two  marks. 

Then cut away  or use a trimmer to remove the lower edge and discard.

4. Fold the score lines as follows. Starting with the 2" on the left hand side fold valley, mountain, valley, mountain, valley, mountain, valley, mountain, making sure that the folds stay in a line across the top as you make the creases.  

5. Now turn your folded card over and hold securely in place using double sided tape as shown below. 

6. You can now complete your card as required. Here I have used the following pieces of card to complete my design below. 

Cardstock 4" x 5" 

Curtain fold.

Mounted onto a folded card base  measuring. 4.5" x 5.5".

Version III

1. This version is for a Reversed Double Curtain Fold with even pleating on either side of centre.
 Start by using design paper cut to 11" x 3". If you want a pattern showing through on the folds then use a double sided design paper.  n.b for the tutorial I have used plain paper in order for the instructions to show up. Starting from the left hand side score lines at 1.5",2",3",3.5",4.5",5",6",6.5",7.5",8",9",9.5"
Also on the 5" score line and the 6" score line measure up from the bottom 1.5" and mark a pencil line between the two points as shown below.

 2. Make two slits on these lines up to the mark as shown below. Also draw two diagonal lines out to the bottom left  and right edges from these slits.

 3. Then cut to remove the lower edge and discard. you should now have a scored strip as shown below.

 4. You are now ready to fold the pleats. Starting on the left hand side fold as follows to the 5" score line. Valley,mountain,valley, mountain,valley, mountain. Stop at this point. 

 5. Then from the 6" score line, fold mountain, valley, mountain,valley  mountain, valley. 

  6. Make sure that the two centre points meet in the middle. Then fold each crease down firmly. The finished width of your curtain fold should be approx 5"

 7. Now turn your folded card over and hold securely in place using double sided tape as shown below. 

8. You can now complete your card as required. Here I have evenly  wrapped my curtain fold around card stock that is 4" wide.

We are now onto the 18th letter of the alphabet which is R. Winners results for #134  are in the post below. Make sure you check back as it could be you. Lets Spin the Butterfly Wheel.

Each challenge will be a letter of the Alphabet with  a choice of 3 Colours and 2 Themes all beginning with the chosen letter.

New for this Yr. The 7th element of the wheel is a card shape.

(The discerning amongst you will notice that there is now an added page along the top under the Butterfly Banner called Card shapes.)

There will be a card shape for the letter being used for each challenge and I will be showing a tutorial on this page with hints and tips for making the cards. 

The card shape is not mandatory but if you do use it you will qualify for the top prize without having to combine all of the other 6 elements onto your card. You must of course use your butterfly.  The shapes will all be easy ones, just a different way to either fold or cut your basic cardbase. 

If you don't want to use the card shape then 

You can either choose a Theme or a Colour from the wheel + Butterfly  to be entered  for the 1st Prize.

If you use a Butterfly + a Theme + a Colour from the wheel then 

you  will  be entered into the 2nd Prize.
